This project was always intended to be different. Rather than extending the home, the client wanted a completely standalone outdoor cooking space — a destination within the garden dedicated to serious outdoor cooking. As an enthusiastic cook, the brief focused on performance, layout and flow, while also creating a comfortable setting for guests to gather and relax.
The design was led entirely by how the client wanted to cook, move and host within the space. A U-shaped layout with an additional island was selected to maximise workspace and efficiency, while allowing multiple cooking zones to operate seamlessly together. The island was designed with a dual purpose — providing prep space on one side and integrated bar seating on the other, keeping guests connected to the cooking process without interrupting it.
Handmade concrete worktops run throughout the U-shape and island, housing a built-in wood-fired oven, grill, refrigeration, sink, integrated storage and waste — all positioned for intuitive use. A Renson Camargue pergola provides reliable, year-round shelter, with lighting and heating carefully incorporated to ensure the space is usable in all conditions.

The finished space is a purpose-built outdoor cooking and hosting environment, completely separate from the house and free from compromise. Practical, robust and visually refined, it allows the client to cook seriously while guests gather comfortably at the bar. Every detail supports real use — creating an outdoor kitchen designed to perform just as well socially as it does functionally.
